About The Book

Purveyor of Miracles is the first book in the TOME OF THE NEW WORLD series. While its setting has much in common with our world circa 1885, this place has some drastic differences. Some of these include mechanical birds perched on telegraph wires, robotic sentries patrolling the streets, subterranean cities and airships sailing over the prairie.

Ambrose Vassell is a medicine man, licensed doctor, con artist and salesman. His talents include mixing healing elixirs, gambling, marksmanship and, more recently, bank robbery. He is the quintessential gentleman of this clockwork world and has contacts within multiple layers of society as well as its alluring underworld.

Blaine Coyle is an agent for the Department of Alchemy and Technological Infractions. He earns his salary going against rogue crime bosses, unlicensed crafters of weaponry or exotic bodily enhancements, and the occasional bank robbing medicine man.

When these two men cross paths, it is at a time when major moves are being made by those who forged this new world. Like most secretive organizations, this one will throw everything it has to keep from being uncovered before it’s good and ready. Ghostly assassins, automaton armies and the occasional freak of nature will do their best to put Ambrose and Blaine into their graves before they answer some very important questions. What secret is locked away inside a bank vault in Missouri? Who, if anyone, within the government can be trusted? Was this world vastly different before being shaped by unknown forces?

Welcome to the New World where strange is the status quo.

About Marcus Pelegrimas

Marcus Pelegrimas was born in St. Louis, Missouri and grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. There, he attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha to receive a degree in Criminal Justice. Much to the chagrin of the more practical side of his family, he chucked all of that to pursue his dream of being a writer. He has since had multiple series published in the western genre under the pseudonym Marcus Galloway (still a family name and it sounds more “western”) including THE MAN FROM BOOT HILL, THE ACCOMPLICE, and SNAKE OIL. His works since then have ranged from SKINNERS (a series about vampire and werewolf hunters) to MARKER (a thriller about an aging hitman dealing with an over-zealous apprentice). Since moving to West Virginia, he has delved into the fine art of creating alternate realities as seen in his more recent series, TOME OF THE NEW WORLD and THE GILLIS LEDGERS.

SKINNERS series

Blood Blade

Welcome to the nightmare . . .

There is a world you don’t know about, inhabited by supernatural creatures of darkness—vampires, werewolves, and all manner of savage, impossible beasts that live for terror and slaughter and blood. They are all around us but you cannot see them, for knowledge of their presence—so close and so hungry—would surely drive any ordinary human insane.

But for centuries a special breed of hunter has kept the monsters at bay, preventing them from breaking through the increasingly fragile barriers protecting our mortal realm.

These guardians are called skinners.

But beware . . . for there are very few of them left.

Howling LEGION

No one said fighting monsters was going to be easy . . .

You can’t see them, but they’re here: hiding in the pools of shadow outside a Chicago burger joint . . . wreaking havoc in Kansas City . . . feeding in sleazy “blood brothels” that cater to humans who itch to get bitten.

Cole was designing video games when he learned the truth—that foul creatures of the night lust for our blood . . . and our world. Now he’s a “Skinner,” a member of an ancient secret society of warriors entrusted with keeping the terror at bay. Monsters once chained to the wilderness are suddenly free and descending, razor claws ripping, on the unsuspecting city. No one knows what’s coming—but Cole and his seductive partner, Paige, will be the first to dive into the meat grinder.

teeth of beasts

Horrible things move through the shadows of our world—bloodsuckers, Full Bloods and mongrel beasts, shapeshifters and minor freaks. For centuries creature hunters known as Skinners have protected humankind. But who protects the Skinners . . . from madness?

Unbeknownst to the human population, a pestilence is raging through an unseen community of low-level monstrosities. What seems, at first glance, a boon for the mortal cause has horrific connotations—as the Skinner team of Cole Warnecki and Paige Strobel races across the Midwest to uncover the shocking secret of the “Mud Flu.” For a nightmare of destruction and blood sacrifice is looming—one born of an unholy meeting nearly two centuries ago—that will pit man against beast, and Skinner against Skinner.

vampire uprising

A legendary Skinner has passed. Among the articles he left behind are runes, potions, and powerful weapons to aid in the ongoing war against the unspeakable creatures that prowl the shadows

outside normal human consciousness. But there is something else: the remains of a terrifying beast no other Skinner has ever encountered. And it isn’t dead.

Skinners, partners, lovers, Cole Warnecki and Paige Strobel are well armed with the tools the late Jonah Lancroft provided. But even his best weapons may not be enough to defeat the monstrosity they now face. A new terror has risen up to infect them both with its virulent malevolence, even as Paige confronts the secrets of her astonishing past. The purest evil walks the world again—the First Deceiver, humankind’s darkest nightmare, the self-proclaimed King of the Full Bloods.

the breaking

Shapeshifters, vampires, and all manner of monstrosities are raining hell down on a small western town—which is why Skinner Paige Strobel is headed there with a band of Old World Skinners who have been battling monsters for centuries using antiquated, yet oddly effective weaponry. Meanwhile, Paige’s sometime-partner/sometime-lover Cole Warnecki is being held prisoner by persons—or things—unknown: framed, tortured, and beaten for the slaughter of cops at a vampire warehouse in Denver.

For Paige and Cole, a search for answers has become a battle for survival. The future of unsuspecting humankind is balanced on a knife blade. And the Apocalypse is a certainty unless they can uncover the truth behind a terrible force powering monsters and hunters alike . . . and find out why—after horrific werewolf attacks in KC and bloody carnage in Philly—Skinners are suddenly, inexplicably, turning against Skinners . . .

extinction agenda

The human race is under siege—with shapeshifters, vampires, and half-blood werewolves freely prowling the streets of the world’s cities . . . and Full Bloods about to descend en masse from out of the dark wilderness. The police and the military are helpless, and only the Skinners can forestall the tactical nuke strikes the Army has planned as a last resort.

Skinners, partners, lovers, Paige Strobel and Cole Warnecki know Armageddon is at hand, and seek a union with the mysterious European blood hunters, the Gypsy Amriany, as a final, desperate means to preventing the monster apocalypse. But power-mad traitors from the ranks of their own kind could doom humanity’s valiant efforts to survive. And the only possible outcome at the end of the ultimate war is total extinction. But for whom . . . or what?

Forged from ash

Narrowly avoiding extinction at the hands of the Full Bloods, mankind had its eyes brutally ripped open to the truth of what lies in the darkness. A fight for survival has begun on a global scale. The Skinners were dealt an almost crippling blow with the rise of the shapeshifters and have scattered. Some have joined forces with the Inhuman Response Division, a coalition of what little military remains. Others have sided with The Vigilant, a faction of violent zealots thriving in this lawless world. And some are in hiding, waiting to rejoin the fight. Terror rules this land, roaming in packs, evolving, leaving the stench of death in its wake.

The Gillis Ledgers

paris is melting

Jake Gillis was a Marine in The Great War. During the heat of battle in 1909, things took a turn for the weird. Mines clattered to life and burrowed underground. Tanks began to hover. Robotic infantrymen charged into gunfire without twitching. After being reassigned to the Navy’s Special Sciences Division, Jake got a front row seat as the world was introduced to a dimensional gateway known as the Altersphere. Once the Altersphere was breached, things from alien worlds and futuristic societies found their way to Earth. Scientists rolled up their sleeves and figured out how to use what they could, dismantling the rest to give birth to a new reality.

When the war finally ends, things don’t exactly quiet down. Jake finds work as a private contractor in the burg of Cincinnati where his skills are still in high demand. An especially nasty trinket from the Altersphere has burnt a trail across Europe. Special Sciences is working off the books on this one. They need someone to follow the path of destruction back to its source. While Jake is always a sucker for serving his country, the big-time payday offered by the G-Men cinches the deal and he answers the call to duty.

Marker

blind eye

Eddie Ballard is a hitman who loves his job. He is also inexperienced and enjoys making the kind of noise that just isn’t professional. If Eddie wasn’t so good at what he does, he could be the next one put onto a slab.

Cecil Marzynski is a quiet, skinny man with eyes that have seen all there is to see in the St. Louis underworld. Cecil is also a hitman, but one that uses a vast network of contacts as his primary weapon. So many important people on both sides of the law owe him favors that some have taken to calling him Marker.

Eddie enjoys fast cars, loud guns and louder music.

Cecil has been circling the same woman for months, trying to find the perfect angle to approach her without tipping her off that he is wanted for murder in several states.

Eddie thinks he knows how to be a tough guy. Cecil has forced some of the toughest criminals to give up everything they held dear.

The figure at the top of St. Louis’s biggest organized crime syndicate is known as Pyotr The Greek. Pyotr is the only man with enough power to convince Cecil to take Eddie under his wing and teach him about what it means to be a true professional. Along the way, perhaps Eddie can show Marker a thing or two about savoring the good things in a bad life. Unfortunately for both of them, there is a new threat coming to town that might hit The Greek hard enough to topple his entire family.
